In a market crowded with AI voice generators, Respeecher occupies a specific and well-defined position: professional voice synthesis for media, entertainment, healthcare, sports, and any context where output quality will be evaluated by experts. Understanding what that means requires looking at what the company actually does, for whom, and how the technology works.
Respeecher was founded in February 2018 in Kyiv, Ukraine, by Alex Serdiuk, Dmytro Bielievtsov, and Grant Reaber. In 2019, the company completed the Comcast NBCUniversal LIFT Labs Accelerator — an early signal of its media focus. The company received $1.5 million in funding in early 2020 and has raised over $3 million since founding.

Respeecher’s core capability is converting one voice into another with production-grade realism. Two primary modes:
Speech-to-speech (STS) converts an existing recording into a target voice while preserving the original performance — timing, emotional quality, delivery nuance, and the physical qualities of speech. This is the method of choice in film and game production, where the performance is the creative work and changing only the voice identity is the goal.
Text-to-speech (TTS) generates speech from text, using either marketplace voices or custom-trained models. Useful for generating new lines, narration, or dialogue when no source performance exists.
The technology blends public AI models with proprietary algorithms built by the engineering team. A team of 15+ sound professionals then reviews and refines every project by ear — the human layer that separates Respeecher’s output from raw model-generated audio.
Additional capabilities: multilingual voice generation across numerous languages, accents, and dialects; over 150 narration styles via the marketplace; real-time voice conversion for live production contexts (custom plans); a Pro Tools plugin for audio post-production professionals; a developer API for pipeline integration; and AI voice detection for security and identity verification applications.
The range of industries Respeecher serves is wider than most platforms in the space:
Film and TV post-production: Replacing dialogue when actors can’t return for reshoots; de-aging voices; recreating historical figures from archival recordings; preserving a character’s voice after an actor retires or passes.
Animation and kids’ voices: Generating age-appropriate and character-specific voices for animated productions.
Dubbing and localization: Converting a single actor’s performance into a version that sounds like that actor speaking a different language — preserving voice identity across markets. Respeecher recreated the voice of Hungarian dubbing legend Lajos Kránitz in 2022, giving Hungarian audiences their original Darth Vader back.
Game development: Scaling voices for large in-game dialogue volumes; reviving characters after original actors are no longer available.
Sports broadcasting: In 2021, Respeecher recreated the voice of Puerto Rican sportscaster Manuel Rivera Morales — who passed away in 2014 — for the Tokyo Olympics. The project was described by the production team as “truly magical.” For Super Bowl LV, Respeecher recreated the voice of legendary NFL coach Vince Lombardi. Yogi Berra’s voice was also recreated for a historical baseball project.
Healthcare and voice restoration: Respeecher has collaborated with researchers to help laryngectomy patients recover their voice — enabling people who have lost the ability to speak to communicate naturally and produce audio and video content such as lectures and voiceovers.
Call centers: Real-time voice conversion adjusts agents’ accents and tone during live customer calls, improving NPS and CSAT scores without requiring agents to be physically relocated.
Podcasts and audiobooks: Enabling consistent narration across long-form audio content, with the ability to generate additional content without requiring actors to return for new sessions.
Documentary and historical content: Recreating Richard Nixon’s voice for MIT’s “In Event of Moon Disaster”; recreating the 100-year-old voices of Sir Ernest Shackleton and five crewmates for the National Geographic Endurance documentary.
Cybersecurity: Respeecher’s AI voice detection technology identifies synthetic speech and unauthorized voice replication, supporting fraud prevention and identity verification in finance, legal, and government sectors.

Respeecher’s consent framework is explicit: every voice requires permission from the original speaker, and rights documentation is maintained for all projects. In February 2023, Respeecher joined OpenAI, TikTok, and seven other organizations as one of the first ten companies to commit to the Partnership on AI’s framework for responsible synthetic media. In 2024, the company endorsed the NO FAKES Act, arguing that individual voice protection legislation is essential in the current AI landscape.
The platform offers subscription plans through the Respeecher Marketplace, a project-based custom workflow for enterprise and studio clients, and a developer API with a TTS endpoint. A free trial is available for evaluating marketplace voice quality before purchasing. The Pro Tools plugin enables integration with standard audio post-production environments.

Respeecher is not the fastest or cheapest way to generate AI voice. It’s the right tool when voice quality has to hold up under professional scrutiny — when audio will be reviewed by sound engineers, editors, legal teams, and eventually audiences. That’s a specific market, but it’s a meaningful one, and Respeecher’s track record across film, games, sports, healthcare, and documentary proves what the technology can deliver.
